I am a forbidden author in Turkmenistan where an absolute ruler runs the country since 1985. His security forces tried to stop me from writing. I was blackmailed, threatened, intimidated, arrested, sentenced… I was branded as a hooligan, spy and therefore fled the country to continue my work as an author. Then, I was branded by the state-owned media as a traitor, a madman, a thief, a slanderer and a bastard… To tell the truth, my only transgression was my writing and I couldn’t stop it because of the will of someone who seized the power illegally and kept it thanks to Turkmenistan’s natural resources.
